Your first session will last 60 minutes. Subsequent sessions are 50 minutes. The frequency of sessions varies depending on your particular needs. Some clients come in weekly; some come every other week. While other clients call to schedule an appointment on an as-needed basis. You have the right to terminate your treatment at any time for any reason.
The initial visit is an assessment. First, we will take care of necessary paperwork and discuss my practice policies. Next, I will ask you questions and take notes in order to document a clear picture of your background, mental health history, medical history, and the current problem that you are experiencing. I will go over my assessment with you, and at that time we will discuss if you would like to move forward with treatment. If you choose to continue treatment, together we will develop a treatment plan. I will also refer you to other professionals/community agencies if needed. You should feel free to ask me any questions you may have at that time.
I will never pressure you to talk about something that you do not wish to discuss. This is your treatment and I will abide by your agenda and how fast or slow you wish to take therapy.
Ethically and legally I am bound by confidentiality regardless of your age and I take this obligation very seriously. There are however, exceptions to the confidentiality rule:
1) if you tell me about a plan to hurt yourself or someone else,
2) if you tell me that someone is hurting you (if you’re under 18 or over 62 years old). In each of these cases I am required by law to report such information to the proper authorities (police, DCFS, etc.).
You can reach me at 773.251.7316 if you are in need of immediate service, e.g. you are upset and need to talk. I am more than happy to help you during off times, as it is not reasonable to think that you will only need me during office hours. I ask that you please be respectful of my time when you are in need of immediate service and that you call during reasonable hours (8:30 AM – 11:00 PM) if possible. For the first 10 minutes, I will not charge you for the call, from 10 minutes to 20 minutes I may bill you for ½ a session and over 20 minutes I may bill you for a whole session. This will depend on how often you call and use my services.
