I work with adults, adolescents & families to address a wide range of issues including:
My work with clients tends to be solution-focused and ego
supportive. I also use cognitive behavioral
techniques where appropriate. This means focusing on identifying negative or skewed thoughts (the things that you tell yourself about yourself and your life) then working to change the ensuing behaviors. I want my clients to feel in control of their own lives – to feel better and function better.
Confidentiality is of the utmost importance in our work together, as is establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship. Please know that I am sensitive to cultural, religious and ethnic diversities and will treat you with the utmost compassion and respect.
I also provide consultation services to professionals (lawyers, teachers, business owners and other mental health professionals) who encounter people who may need to be referred to a therapist. I can also consult with professionals who may need a confidential ear to process how they can best work with their client or an employee.
If you are not receiving the supervision required for your LCSW license or if you wish to receive more individual and personalized supervision, as a licensed clinical social worker I can provide that for you in either my Northfield or Chicago offices.
If a family member or friend has recently been diagnosed with a mental
illness (bi-polar disorder, depression, addiction or eating disorder, just to name a few) family and friends frequently feel confused and helpless, unsure of how to assist their loved one in this difficult time.
This particular service provides a personalized approach, tailored directly to the client and their diagnosis, creating a wrap-around support system for the loved one and those of you who are involved in their lives.
This includes:
• Two private sessions with the client’s family & friends. If your loved one is hospitalized, I like to have the initial meeting before they are discharged.
• Education about your loved one’s mental illness; it's etiology, common treatments and medications frequently used to treat it.
• A handbook of resources for you as you navigate your way
• I will work collaboratively with the client’s current therapist and psychiatrist (if they have either one) to develop a care plan that keeps the client's needs, best interest and safety as the primary goal.
I am a strong advocate of education, and an active participant in community outreach and intervention
programs. I can prepare a presentation for your business, agency, community organization or religious organization on a variety of topics, including addictions, conflict resolution, parenting & communication techniques, self-esteem and depression.
